André Carson sees progress in Afghanistan
Posted on August 17th, 2010Rep. Andre Carson, D-Indianapolis, squeezed himself into a military hooch in Afghanistan and met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a recent congressional trip to the two countries.
Carson, one of only two Muslims in Congress, said his religion was no secret and also not an issue during the meeting with Netanyahu.
“I spoke very passionately about my hope to see a two-state solution,” Carson said of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “He spoke very passionately about what he views as the Israeli government’s role in bringing about that peace.”
Carson said he was awed by the rich religious traditions from people of all faiths in Tel Aviv and shared his impressions with his Jewish friends.
The two days Carson spent in Afghanistan included a visit with Hoosier soldiers and a meeting with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan.
